3 weeks agoBest hostel I have ever been to so far, and very well located. They organize activities almost every day, so there’s always an opportunity to meet new people. During my stay, everyone was very friendly, including the staff. The bathrooms, showers, and kitchen were cleaned frequently, and the fact that the beds have curtains was great for maintaining privacy. Definitely would stay here again!! :)

2 weeks agoPacific House was my first time staying in a hostel. I came down for the Coldplay concert and cancelled my stay at another hotel in Sydney Olympic Park to stay here instead. The location of this hostel is perfect. The whole of Sydney is really right at your doorstep with the Opera House, Circular Quay, Hyde Park and St James train station being no more than a ten minute walk away. The hostel is a pleasant older style building with great views of the city. The staff are helpful and friendly. They run social events every night and I made several new friends in my 2 night stay. I will stay here every time I come to Sydney, and can’t wait for my next adventure with Pacific House.

3 months agoLoved staying in this hostel! Great location and quite a few social activities going on weekly. There's a great atmosphere and staff are super friendly. Beds are comfortable and it's pretty clean overall. Free breakfast too! The only downside is that it stays very noisy throughout the day and for a big part of the night. It's true that with earplugs in and the room's door closed you can't hear much, but it was surprisingly noisy every day.

4 months agoThis was such an amazing hostel to stay at whether you are a backpacker trying to plant roots in Sydney or just a traveler! I was only there for about five days for a visit to the city, but the atmosphere and social events made it easy to connect with other people who joined me in exploring a bit. The hostel staff that worked there for accommodation were all so kind and helpful; they went above and beyond to give great advice about the city. Though it is a bit of a party hostel, the free ear plugs and layout of the dorms + thick curtains around the beds made it easy to still get good sleep on nights when I went to bed quite early. The breakfast is also fabulous! Overall, I loved my stay!

2 months agoI only stayed here for 1 night. I personally found the room (6 people shared) too small. Not enough floor space at all and the majority or people stuff was too big to fit into the lockers/ Cupboards so there were lots of bags and suitcases just around the room. I only stay 1 night. Didn’t feel relaxing at all. In terms of cleanliness, it was the least clean hostel I’ve stayed in. Don't get me wrong, the communal areas such as hall way, lift and reception was very clean and also looked beautiful . However in the room, I arrived and there was someone’s strands of hair in my cupboard and tea stains next to the bedside light. You would think the person who changed the bedding would have wiped these down as high contact areas. Also the communal bathrooms were not very clean. There were dirt stains on the sink (floor 3) for the 2 days when I was there and i saw the cleaner go in on both days. She gave the tops of the sink a brief wipe including the taps. She cleaned the mirror, emptied the bin and loosely wiped the mop across the floors but she didn’t actually clean the sinks or showers. Also I really questioned the cleanliness of the mop as it looked like it was just spreading germs and moving water around the floor rather than cleaning something. The showers on floor 3 also had that orange scuzz on them so you can tell they haven’t been properly cleaned. The toilets on both levels 1 & 3 often had toilet paper on the floor and the paper towel bin was over flowing. I saw both the male and female cleaners just sat down in the hallway a few times on the phone. I wouldn’t have minded if the bathrooms were actually really clean! Free Breakfast was really nice (toast & cereal) and I felt like they provided lots of options in terms of toppings as well as tea and coffee. The cafe next door looked really nice but I didn’t go in. Location was brilliant personally, a short walk into the city and lots of cute cafes and restaurants near by. I really recommend the cafe John Montague near by for their delicious sandwiches and coffee! There’s also a nice big park across the road. Another point to mention is that the curtains on the bed are obviously too short. It doesn’t wrap around the bed and you have to either have no curtain by your head or down below. It looks like someone didn’t measure them properly as they all have the same issue. I just hung my towel on the rail and that was soon fixed but it seems like something that people comment on in the reviews so you think they would change them. The hostel atmosphere was good. People were friendly. I found a lot of people were living there and not travelling around. There was a few social activities like yoga, wine & cheese and a group walk. Definitely more of your laid back hostel rather than a party hostel. This suited me perfectly. My big red flag was that they don’t really monitor who is coming in or out of the building and the luggage storage is just by the bathrooms on the ground floor. Someone could easily just walk in off the street and get access to the luggage storage without anyone really noticing. You didn’t need a key code to get into the front door, access the lift or use any other lounge or bathrooms. It did make me question if my bags were safe there. It was fine for 1 night and exactly what I needed but I don’t think I would I rush back which is a shame as the building is beautiful and the location is good but I just don’t think I could compromise of the safety of my bags, size of rooms and also cleanliness.
